Where should I start?

Gethra has a lot of content and it can be a little overwhelming to newcomers. If that’s how you feel, this page is for you! First, it’s important to remember that you can and should enjoy Lives of Gethra however you choose. You could read one story that interests you, follow a combination of characters, or plunge in and try to read it all. Check out the list below to find a character that interests you and then use the navigation drop-down menus to get started with their first chapter!

Aralim the Walker (Length: Extreme / Ongoing)

The idealistic pilgrim, Aralim hails from a distant land and wanders across the map in search of the keys to enlightenment–his quest on the Path. Accompanied by a child beggar, Miresh, Aralim’s journey will take him to unexpected places across Gethra and convince him that the Path will lead him to greatness.

Arn (Length: Long / Ongoing)

Arn strives for power on his remote tribal island of Razaad. Nurture or nature has instilled in his people the urge to outsmart one another and fight for every need. With limited resources and a vision of the future unrecognized by his peers, Arn’s greatest adversary may be his own stress as he seeks survival for himself and for his people at any cost.

Dago (Length: Short / Concluded)

Though Dago is many things–unhinged, dangerous, experienced–he is also a mercenary, willing to do any job for the right price. So when a mysterious woman and her warrior outfit takes Dago captive and demands he work for free, a clear enemy appears. Dago’s struggle for answers and survival may be his undoing or will finally set him on a path to redemption.

East Storm Company (Length: Short / Ongoing)

With war brewing all around, the services of the East Storm Company have never been in higher demand. Tirak is an experienced mercenary, seeking to join the Company for his next profitable job. Tali dreams of her father’s naval heroism while trying to fit in on a harsh mercenary ship. Mavri works the forge as she serves the Company, always ready to turn her hammer on an enemy if the need arose.  Kelren, chief magician for the Company, must advise his leaders on the best course of action in a world he sees rife with shifting allegiances and dangerous futures. From a variety of perspectives, life in the East Storm Company is changing–just as life on Gethra always does.

Lerran son of Gharo (Length: Intermediate / Concluded)

As Lerran son of Gharo emerges from his father’s shadow, he seeks to build his crime Family into something that can withstand the tests of time. Between his desire to protect his siblings and his growing ambition, Lerran will have to fight for the future of which he dreams, or he may lose it all.

Lerran’s story is closely related to his brother Renado’s tale. Recommended reading order for both is: Renado 1-4, Lerran, Renado 5 and on.

Lord Farek Gallendris (Length: Long / Ongoing)

Farek is the heir to the powerful Bank of Soros, but he will do anything to protect his sister’s rule. When a bizarre prophesy interrupts his lavish lifestyle of drinking and partying, Farek finally finds something that fills some unspoken want of his–caring. He resolves not to let fate carry him along, and strives to better those around him as the stakes continue to rise.

Neeko (Length: Short / Concluded)

Secretive and paranoid, Neeko feels his age more and more everyday. His quest to find the key to immortality will either be his undoing or it will mark him as a legend among those stuffy scholars back in Noress-That-Was. With trusty assistant Pais’ca in tow, Neeko delves deeper into the wildlands of Gethra in search of legendary alchemical agents.

Raya Ganner (Length: Long / Concluded)

From village huntress to voluntary aid-seeker, Raya is dispatched from her small town of Olston to find help with the growing number of refugees in the region. In the big cities, her naivety will be challenged and she will have to hold fast to her beliefs. She will certainly find more than she sought.

Renado son of Gharo (Length: Long / Ongoing)

When a routine smuggling mission ends with Ren’s ship caught in a hurricane, something truly unexpected happens. When Renado returns to his home, he finds that everything has changed. His adaptability will be put to the test as he comes to terms with a whole new life. His journey ranges from the depths of defeat to the greatest of victories–but will it end in happiness?  Or in tragedy?

Renado’s story is closely related to that of his brother, Lerran. Recommended reading order for both is: Renado 1-4, Lerran, Renado 5 and on.

Sister Niamh (Length: Short / Ongoing)

Compassionate Niamh of the Atmos Septi goes about her life in Saanazar just like any of her brethren and friends – prayers, outreach, and counseling. Therelin of Keth (Length: Intermediate / Ongoing)

Therelin of Keth finally sets off from his sheltered island home to seek his place as a magician of Gethra. After seven years of training with Master Myandin in Keth City, he believes himself prepared for his future abroad–he could not be more wrong. It will take every shred of his skill and fortitude to achieve greatness in a world that seems to constantly tear itself apart.

Vaenuth (Length: Intermediate / Concluded)

Fierce and determined, Vaenuth has walked in many lives. Her history of slavery forced her to overcome impossible odds once before. Now she pursues success as a caravan master in a new land, a life she has built for herself. When she finds an opportunity for vengeance, she does not hesitate to put it all on the line to find closure for her harsh upbringing.

Queen Zanna the Just (Length: Short / Concluded)

The young Queen Zanna rules the Eye of Maga, an exotic city in the Elder Coast. When bandits seize one of her outlying towns, Queen Zanna decides to personally oversee the restoration of peace. But the fight for justice is more than physical and Zanna must face the doubts of her own people to see her ideals for the city realized.

Standalone Chapters

Several additional stories fill in gaps of Gethra’s unfolding history, or offer a look at lives and perspectives that haven’t been seen through the eyes of the main characters. To determine when to read these stories, it’s best to find where they fit chronologically with the stories you do choose to read.
